~ Introduction ~ Irish Water Spaniels are still very much a rare breed and as a result of careful breeding selections, the breed averages approximately 150 pups a year in north America and fewer than 300 worldwide. IWS are intelligent and trainable thus making them an all-around great breed whether your passion is in conformation, the field, agility, rally, obedience, or just being beloved companions. Cu'Chulain Irish Water Spaniels started with one very important pet ... BIS, BISS, Am. Can. Ch. Sylmar's Raindancer - Marley. When we were looking for a family dog the choice was between a Standard Poodle or a Labrador .. well we got the best of both worlds with Marley! The Irish Water Spaniel has a non-shedding coat like a Standard Poodle but has the "sportyness" of a labrador! Marley introduced us to the conformation ring and became one of the top winning IWS in the history of the breed but the most important thing is that he has been a GREAT friend for almost 14 years. He is the foundation stud dog for our kennel and his pups are following in his famous pawprints as you will see in the pages to follow! At Cu'Chulain we are breeding with emphasis on type, health, longevity and temperament. We are members of the Irish Water Spaniel Club of American and the Irish Water Spaniel Club of Canada.
